Alyce Anne Baggett, a Lufkin native, has served on the Methodist Retirement Communities Board of Directors since 2010 and is currently serving as Vice Chair. She was initially introduced to the organization in 2003 when her mother moved into PineCrest. “At the time, I was still living and working in Austin. I was so comforted that she was there because I knew her needs were met, even though I was four hours away,” recalls Baggett.
She discovered something special about the community almost immediately, “PineCrest is unlike any other place in the area because the employees who work there are fully bought-in to the mission statement of MRC. It’s not a job, it’s a calling. They always treated my mother like she was their mother. That’s why I had such peace knowing she was there. To me...PineCrest is love! It represents love, care and protection for those I love.”
Baggett expressed that she too believes wholeheartedly in MRC’s mission statement: We honor and serve older adults as an expression of Christ’s love.
After retiring in 2009 and moving back to Lufkin, Baggett was approached to join the MRC Board of Directors the following year. “I wanted to serve on the Board because I knew that this was my opportunity to give back to other families, all across the state, what PineCrest had given to me; that same sense of love, care and protection.”
Baggett’s connection to MRC now spans almost two decades with over 12 years serving on the Board of Directors. During her tenure, the organization has added The Crossings in League City, The Langford in College Station, Mirador in Corpus Christi and soon, Stevenson Oaks in Fort Worth to the collection of communities.
“MRC simply wouldn’t be what we are today without Alyce Anne’s passion and dedication. She has contributed greatly to the direction of the organization over the years and continues to be a rich source of wisdom,” expressed Alan Brown, MRC President and CEO.
