Choosing a career is arguably one of the most important decisions a person can make in their lifetime. Studies seem to suggest that working Americans highly prioritize a sense of purpose in their work. For example, Tomorrow University found that 7 in 10 people ranked purpose as a defining role in their career choice. Additionally, 89% of American employees said they would be willing to take a lateral career move without financial incentive to find greater fulfillment.
With so many people looking for deeper connection in their work, senior living seems to be too often overlooked. Graduating seniors who are entering the career field are being pulled in so many directions, each opportunity promising certain benefits, growth opportunities, and varying levels of compensation. They may even be drawn to the type of careers to put their name in lights, when those who have 'been there and done that' would testify, it is more fulfilling to find a job that lights you up instead. Senior living appears to be one of those type of careers.
Take the feedback from employees of Methodist Retirement Communities as an example, the largest non-profit, faith-based senior living provider in the state of Texas, found that 99% of employees say the mission of the organization matters to them. Employees shared some of the top reasons why they would encourage others to consider a career in senior living.
