LUFKIN, TEXAS

“I get by with a little help.”

Assisted Living

Lufkin

Breathe in the fresh scent of pine in Lufkin, Texas, nestled between the Davy Crockett and Angelina National Forests near the Louisiana border. Whether you're an outdoors enthusiast who wants to immerse yourself in all nature has to offer or you prefer the comforts of interior living and want a variety of activity options available, Lufkin has everything to meet your needs when venturing off our Pinecrest grounds.

Recreation

Lufkin offers a little something for everyone, with a variety of outdoor experiences and a solid mix of social and cultural entertainment. Our independent living residents who enjoy learning more about the local area and want educational opportunities to build memories with the grandkids can spend an afternoon at the Naranjo Museum of Natural History. The Museum of East Texas showcases displays for art enthusiasts and there are several other museums in neighboring towns with their own unique offerings. Animal lovers can ride the train or sign up for a paid encounter at the Ellen Trout Zoo to break up a day of visiting with all the creatures who call it home. Those who love the theater can check in with the Angelina Arts Alliance to see the schedule for their latest live musical, theatrical, or comedy performances.

Residents who want a little less structure and prefer leisure time with a little more spontaneity can take a stroll in downtown Lufkin. Maybe they'll happen upon the quarterly Main Street Market Days and pick something up from one of the local vendors, or perhaps they'll catch one of the town's annual events, such as the Earth Day Celebration or Lufkin Glow Show. Even a standard day offers plenty of opportunities for adventure. Couples can immortalize their commitment by placing a lock on the Locks of Love Tree in the East Texas Piney Woods before heading to one of the many local restaurants in town.

If blue skies and fresh air are on the agenda, Lufkin shines the most when it's outside. The town's location between two national forests and Sam Rayburn Lake offers a broad selection of outdoor activities. A scenic hike at Kit McConnico Park can take you to local wildlife viewing areas and Sam Rayburn is considered one of the top fishing lakes in the country. The lake offers almost any water activity imaginable and the area is home to the Rayburn golf course at the Rayburn Country Resort. Whatever leisure activity residents prefer, they can be certain to find it in, or near, the town of Lufkin.

Climate

Lufkin gets more than its share of rainfall a year, averaging 50 inches annually, but that is one of the reasons the area supports so much greenery throughout the year. With temperatures averaging above freezing all year, Pinecrest assisted living residents will not need to worry about snow days keeping them indoors when they want to plan a day of adventure. Despite being so far south, hot summer days average in the low 90's, making Lufkin one of the cooler areas in Texas and providing ample opportunity to enjoy the sun in comfort.

Medical Care

Pinecrest is well equipped to handle most of the medical needs of our independent living residents. Our staff can provide skilled nursing to those who require this level of care and we even offer memory support. For healthcare that goes beyond our scope, Lufkin is home to two major hospitals that are each within 10 minutes of our community.

The Woodland Heights Medical Center includes a 24-hour emergency department in the 149-bed facility. The full-service hospital is the recipient of several awards for their work in orthopedic surgery, cardiology, neurology, and pulmonology. The medical center is also rated as a Primary Stroke Center, receiving the Gold Seal of Approval by The Joint Commission and the Heart Check-mark by the American Heart Association and the American Stroke Association.

St. Luke's Health Memorial Hospital offers our residents a second option for their health concerns. This facility also offers 24-hour emergency care along with cardiology, orthopedic, and neurology departments. For our residents managing a cancer diagnosis, St. Luke's offers the Dan L. Duncan Comprehensive Cancer Center, one of three centers in Texas designated by the Nationa Cancer Institute.
